It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that Teso Province has announced the passing of one of its most devoted supporters, Elotu John Raymond, following injuries sustained during a tragic incident at Uganda Technical College Lira.
Elotu, a passionate fan, was among the many supporters who travelled from Teso to Lira to rally behind their team during the second leg of the FUFA Drum quarterfinal clash against Lango Province on 29th March 2026. His commitment reflected the unwavering spirit and loyalty that defines football supporters across the region.
The unfortunate incident occurred when a group of fans, in an attempt to secure a better view of the match, climbed onto the roof of one of the mechanical workshops within the college premises. The old asbestos structure could not withstand the weight, collapsing suddenly and causing several fans to fall onto the concrete surface below. Elotu is believed to have been the first to fall, suffering severe head injuries upon impact.

Emergency response teams swiftly rushed the injured, including Elotu, to Lira Regional Referral Hospital. Due to the severity of his condition, he was later transferred to Lacor Hospital in Gulu for specialized treatment. Despite the relentless efforts of the medical team and days of intensive care, Elotu sadly succumbed to his injuries on Saturday evening at 9:15 PM.

As Teso Province, we have lost one of our own. We are all called upon to stand with the family.”
Teso Province has extended its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and all loved ones of the late Elotu John Raymond during this incredibly difficult time. His death is not only a loss to his family but to the entire football community that he passionately supported.
As the region mourns, calls have also grown louder for improved safety measures at match venues to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
